HJ828: Celebrating the life of Jim Bullington.
WHEREAS, Jim Bullington, longtime, third-generation owner of the Texas Tavern in Roanoke and a compassionate champion for the well-being of his family, employees, and the community, died on January 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Jim Bullington worked as a door-to-door vacuum salesman and a real estate professional; he served his country as a member of the United States Air Force, stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and Japan; and
WHEREAS, in the 1960s, Jim Bullington began working for his father on the night shift at Texas Tavern on Church Avenue; the long-standing Roanoke eatery is known for its chili and has been an essential part of the community since 1930; and
WHEREAS, as owner of the Texas Tavern for many years, Jim Bullington earned a reputation as an effective, fair manager who helped his business grow and supported his employees; after retiring and passing ownership of the restaurant to his son in 2005, he learned photography by volunteering for local photographers; and
WHEREAS, known for his quick wit and good-natured sense of humor, Jim Bullington was also respected as a reliable, empathetic friend and a true gentleman who always saw the best in others and helped inspire them to see the same; and
WHEREAS, Jim Bullington will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Velma; children, Kathryn, Laura, Lisa, and Matt, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jim Bullington, an admired businessman in Roanoke; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jim Bullington as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
