SR102: Celebrating the life of Samuel T. Jacob, Jr.
WHEREAS, Samuel T. Jacob, Jr., a proud veteran, respected businessman, and dedicated community leader in Newport News, died on January 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, a native of Machipongo in Northampton County, Samuel Jacob served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War, earning three Bronze Star Medals for his valorous actions; and
WHEREAS, a 60-year resident of Newport News, Samuel Jacob was possessed of an entrepreneurial spirit and served the community as the owner of C&J Restorations, a local construction contractor; and
WHEREAS, a respected leader in the construction industry, Samuel Jacob was president of the local plasterers and cement masons union and the Peninsula Central Labor Council; and
WHEREAS, working to enhance the quality of life of his fellow Newport News residents, Samuel Jacob offered his time and wise leadership to various charitable and service organizations, the Newport News Democratic Committee, and several local government committees; and
WHEREAS, Samuel Jacob will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Dora Lee; children, Samuel III, Michael, and Catherine, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Samuel T. Jacob, Jr., a veteran, business leader, and active member of the Newport News community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Samuel T. Jacob, Jr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
