Description
Purchase of Virginia-grown food products by state agencies and institutions and local school divisions. Provides for the Department of General Services to establish procurement procedures to facilitate the purchase of Virginia-grown food products by state agencies and institutions and local public school divisions to the maximum extent possible. The bill also exempts local school divisions from competitive sealed bidding under certain circumstances when procuring Virginia-grown food products for student consumption. Read the Bill »

HB 1135 REQUIRES STATE AGENCIES TO PURCHASE VIRGINIA GROWN FOODS FROM SMALL, LOCAL FARMS BY ADDING A LINK TO THE VIRGINIA GROWN WEBSITE TO DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES WEBSITE AND A. AS IT IS NOW, THE CODE PRESENTS LARGE INSTITUTIONS FROM PURCHASING SMALL LOTS OF PRODUCE FROM SMALL LOCAL FARMS. BECAUSE THEY CANNOT SUPPORT THE INSTITUTION.
