Description
Transient occupancy tax; Frederick County. Authorizes Frederick County to impose an additional transient occupancy tax (all counties may impose such tax at a maximum rate of two percent) at a maximum rate of three percent, for a total maximum rate of five percent. The revenue from the additional tax shall be used solely for tourism purposes. Read the Bill »

PRESIDENT, WE HAVE THREE BILLS HERE ON THE REGULAR CALENDAR THAT ADDRESS THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX THIS BEING THE FIRST ONE, THIS IS ONE IS FOR FREDERICK COUNTY. IT ADDRESSES THE SITUATION WHERE THEY WOULD LIKE TO INCREASE THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX OVER THE TRADITIONAL 5 PERCENT THAT WE ALLOW BY GENERAL CODE. THIS HAS BEEN REQUESTED BY THE LOCALITY, AND IT WOULD -- I THINK WITH THE PASSAGE OF THIS BILL, WOULD ALLOW THEM TO INCREASE IT AN ADDITIONAL 2 PERCENT OVER THE EXISTING 5 PERCENT, WITH ALL OF THAT DEDICATED TO TOURISM EFFORTS.
