Description

Rights of persons with disabilities in public places and places of public accommodation; fraudulent representation of a service dog; penalty. Provides that any person who knowingly, willfully, and fraudulently fits a dog with a harness, collar, vest, sign, or identification card commonly used by a person with a disability in order to represent that the dog is a service dog to fraudulently gain public access for such dog in a public place is guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor. Sen. Bryce Reeves (R-Spotsylvania): LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS IS THE SERVICE DOG BILL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY CAME OUT OF THIS BODY AS PRINTED 36 YES, 4 NOS. IT WENT TO THE HOUSE, THEY DECIDED TO DO SOME SCRIBING ON WHAT THEY'VE DONE IS MADE THE IT. BILL EVEN BETTER. WE INADVERTENTLY LEFT OFF HEARING DOG WHEN WE WERE LOOKING AT THE FEDERAL CODE, BUT P THAUT IN THERE. WE STILL HAVE MORE WORK TO DO WITH REGARD TO THIS CODE SECTION THE NEXT YEAR, BUT I THINK THE BILL IS IN GOOD ORDER AND ASK THE BILL PASS.
