A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Article 1 of Chapter 65 of Title 3.2 a section numbered 3.2-6502.1, relating to establishment of a companion animal care advisory committee.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 1 of Chapter 65 of Title 3.2 a section numbered 3.2-6502.1 as follows:

§ 3.2-6502.1. Companion animal care advisory committee established.

The State Veterinarian shall establish a companion animal care advisory committee composed of at least seven persons who represent a diversity of interests regarding the care of companion animals in the Commonwealth by public and private animal shelters. The advisory committee may provide the State Veterinarian with recommendations regarding issues related to the care and treatment of companion animals by public and private animal shelters and serve as a resource in the development of companion animal care policies.

 [ 2. That the advisory committee shall be established by January 1, 2017.  ]
