Description

Local school boards; public school choice. Requires, notwithstanding any agreement, waiver from the federal government, or provision of law to the contrary, each local school board to provide all students enrolled in a public school in the school division that is identified by the Commonwealth for comprehensive support and improvement under relevant federal law with the option to transfer to another public school in the school division. WITH THAT OBJECTION, HOUSE BILL 516 WILL GO BYE FOR THE DAY. HOUSE BILL 518, A BILL RELATING TO LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS, PUBLIC SCHOOL OF CHOICE. REPORTED FROM THE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND HEALTH. THE SENATOR FROM LYNCHBURG. I MOVE THAT THE BILL PASS AND SPEAKING TO THAT MOTION. THE SENATOR HAS THE FLOOR. MR. PRESIDENT, AS THIS BILL ORIGINALLY WAS DRAFT THE, IT WOULD HAVE ALLOWED FOR INTERSCHOOL PUBLIC SCHOOL OF CHOICE TO TAKE PLACE BASICALLY ALLOWING FOR A STUDENT FROM ONE SCHOOL TO MOVE TO ANOTHER SCHOOL. THERE HAS BEEN A LARGE REENACTMENT CLAUSE PLACED ON IN. BASICALLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS THERE WILL BE A REPORT THAT MANY COULDS BACK TO THE CHAIRS OF SENATE EDUCATION AND HOUSE EDUCATION DISCUSSING THE COST OF THESE TYPE OF INTERSCHOOL TRANSFERS. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE BILL PASS.
