Celebrating the life of Jerry Paul Miller.

WHEREAS, Jerry Paul Miller, a respected resident of Edinburg who served and protected the community as Chief of the Woodstock Police Department for nearly three decades, died on August 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Edinburg, Jerry Miller honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army; desirous to be of further service to his fellow Shenandoah County residents, he joined the Woodstock Police Department in 1974; and

WHEREAS, beginning his career in law enforcement as a patrolman, Jerry Miller rose through the ranks to become chief in 1981; he worked to ensure that the officers and staff of the Woodstock Police Department received the best training and equipment to better serve the community; and

WHEREAS, admired for his leadership style, Jerry Miller built strong relationships with both his officers and local residents, cultivating trust and respect between the department and members of the public; and

WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement from law enforcement in 2009, Jerry Miller enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and actively supporting his church; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Miller will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jerry Paul Miller, former police chief of Woodstock and a dedicated servant to the community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jerry Paul Miller as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
