Celebrating the life of Wilford Taylor, Sr.

WHEREAS, Wilford Taylor, Sr., an active member of the Hampton community, died on June 27, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Marion, South Carolina, Wilford Taylor relocated to the Commonwealth and graduated from George P. Phenix High School; he earned a bachelor’s degree from what was then Hampton Institute; and

WHEREAS, after honorably serving his country with the United States Navy, Wilford Taylor served the Wythe community of Hampton for more than 40 years as a carrier for the United States Postal Service; and

WHEREAS, Wilford Taylor was known for bringing joy into the lives of others by singing as he walked his postal route; he also sang with the Crusaders Male Chorus; and

WHEREAS, Wilford Taylor later served as head chef of Vic Zodda’s Restaurant, earning accolades for his delicious, authentic Italian cuisine; after his well-earned retirement, he continued to serve the community as a volunteer in the Hampton Visitor Center; and

WHEREAS, believing strongly in the importance of a good education, Wilford Taylor worked hard to put his children through college and helped his wife achieve a college degree; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Wilford Taylor enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton; and

WHEREAS, Wilford Taylor will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of nearly 67 years, Zenobia; children, Wilford, Jr., James, Jill, and Michelle, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Wilford Taylor, Sr., an admired member of the Hampton community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wilford Taylor, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
