Commending Walter S. Crockett.

WHEREAS, Walter S. Crockett, a dedicated public servant, retired as treasurer of Wythe County on December 31, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Walter S. “Sam” Crockett was elected to the position of treasurer of Wythe County in November 1987 and began his duties as treasurer on January 1, 1988; and

WHEREAS, Sam Crockett’s dedication, devotion, and love for the citizens of Wythe County has allowed him to serve as treasurer for 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Sam Crockett and his family have a long history of public service in Wythe County, and he honored his family and the county with his commitment to providing professional and distinguished service to the citizens of Wythe County; and

WHEREAS, Sam Crockett exemplified his love and service to the citizens of Wythe County by serving in the military and federal and local government for more than 45 years; and

WHEREAS, Sam Crockett returned to Wythe County and strove to improve the collection of taxes and monies owed Wythe County as prescribed by law; and

WHEREAS, Sam Crockett’s knowledge and leadership helped Wythe County obtain contracts for banking services that have provided favorable savings rates for Wythe County’s funds, which allow the county to maintain low tax rates; and

WHEREAS, Sam Crockett and his loyal staff continually improved and modernized the Treasurer’s Office through new technology, including the ability to receive payments by credit card at no additional costs to the citizens; and

WHEREAS, through extensive training and policy development, Sam Crockett became certified as Wythe County’s first Master Governmental Treasurer; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend a dedicated public servant, Walter S. Crockett, on the occasion of his retirement as treasurer of Wythe County after 28 years of public service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Walter S. Crockett as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his many years of service dedicated to the people of Wythe County.
