Commending Barbara Massie Mouly.

WHEREAS, Barbara Massie Mouly, a respected attorney and educator who strives to create new opportunities for the young people of Albemarle County, retired as a member of the Albemarle County School Board in 2015, after more than a decade of service; and

WHEREAS, a native of Crozet, Barbara Mouly graduated from Albemarle High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from The College of William & Mary, a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, and a law degree from George Mason University; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Mouly was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement to use her knowledge and talents to build a stronger, more just society and served the community as an attorney and a law professor; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service, Barbara Mouly ran for and was elected to the Albemarle County School Board in 2003; during her tenure as the White Hall District representative, she advocated for vocational education, anti-bullying programs, and less emphasis on standardized testing; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Mouly worked to enhance all aspects of the school system; she served on the School Board Discipline Committee, Capital Improvements Program Oversight Committee, School Board Legislative Action Committee, School Board Governance Committee, and Commission on Children and Families; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Barbara Massie Mouly on the occasion of her retirement as a member of the Albemarle County School Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Barbara Massie Mouly as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her devoted service to the youth of Albemarle County and best wishes on a happy retirement.
