Commending Baylands Federal Credit Union.

WHEREAS, for 70 years, Baylands Federal Credit Union has provided countless opportunities for its members to borrow and invest wisely; and

WHEREAS, founded on January 22, 1946, Baylands Federal Credit Union was originally known as Chesapeake Employees Federal Credit Union and served employees of the West Point Pulp and Paper Mill; and

WHEREAS, Baylands Federal Credit Union received a community charter in 2002, and now serves the Counties of Essex, Gloucester, James City, King and Queen, King William, New Kent, Mathews, and Middlesex; and

WHEREAS, Baylands Federal Credit Union has always been supportive of many community activities, civic groups, schools, colleges, and public safety groups, such as volunteer fire and rescue departments; and

WHEREAS, Baylands Federal Credit Union has grown to serve more than 5,000 members, with assets of more than $70 million; and

WHEREAS, Baylands Federal Credit Union has expanded from its original, simple office inside the West Point Pulp and Paper Mill to modern offices in the Town of West Point, Norge in James City County, and Quinton in New Kent County; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, Baylands Federal Credit Union has provided financial education for its members, local school children, and other citizen groups and helped members use credit wisely and make sound financial decisions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Baylands Federal Credit Union on the occasion of its 70th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Baylands Federal Credit Union as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its contributions to the residents of the middle peninsula.
