HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 347
Designating the fourth Wednesday in November, in 2016 and in each succeeding year, as Indigenous Peoples Day in Virginia.

WHEREAS, indigenous peoples have lived in the area now known as Virginia for thousands of years; and

WHEREAS, the history, traditions, and ancestral connections of indigenous peoples are intertwined with the history of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, great leaders of indigenous peoples who contributed to the history of the Commonwealth should be honored; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate the fourth Wednesday in November, in 2016 and in each succeeding year, as Indigenous Peoples Day in Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates post the designation of this day on the General Assembly's website.
