Commending Macon and Joan Brock.

WHEREAS, Macon and Joan Brock of Virginia Beach received the 2015 Outstanding Philanthropists award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals for their tireless support of and many generous donations to worthy charitable causes; and

WHEREAS, Macon and Joan Brock received the Outstanding Philanthropists award, which recognizes individuals, groups, or corporations for exceptional achievements in volunteer service or charitable fundraising, at the National Philanthropy Day Honors event on November 12, 2015, in New York City; and

WHEREAS, Macon and Joan Brock have volunteered their time and generously given more than $45 million to numerous organizations and causes, taking a special interest in education, social action, the arts, and the environment; and

WHEREAS, Macon and Joan Brock have supported the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Randolph-Macon College, Virginia Wesleyan College, Longwood University, Access College Foundation, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and the United Way; in 2014, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation named its Brock Environmental Center in their honor; and

WHEREAS, Macon and Joan Brock have also given generously to the Chrysler Museum of Art, where they have both served on the board, and Joan Brock served as the museum board’s first woman chair from 2004 to 2006; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Macon and Joan Brock on receiving the 2015 Outstanding Philanthropists award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Macon and Joan Brock as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for their contributions to communities throughout the Commonwealth.
