Commending Mary Ann Moran.

WHEREAS, Mary Ann Moran, an outstanding community volunteer who has devoted countless hours to the betterment of the people of Arlington County, was honored as the recipient of the 2015 William T. Newman, Jr. Spirit of Community Award by the Arlington Community Foundation; and

WHEREAS, for many years, Mary Ann Moran has had a positive influence on the lives of thousands of residents of Arlington County as a teacher, mentor, change agent, advocate, and community leader; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ann Moran has been an active member of many nonprofit organizations, including Arlington’s Task Force on Youth, which led to the formation of The Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth & Families; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ann Moran was named co-chair of The Arlington Partnership for Children, Youth & Families after it was founded; the organization’s mission is to improve health, wellbeing, and safety; and

WHEREAS, Mary Ann Moran also helped implement the Developmental Assets program in Arlington County and the Arlington County Public School division; the program aims to positively influence young people’s development and help them prepare for success as adults; and

WHEREAS, through the years, many nonprofit organizations in Arlington County have benefited from Mary Ann Moran’s leadership and contributions; she is a valued volunteer and exemplifies the spirit of community; and

WHEREAS, with her gentle and unassuming nature, Mary Ann Moran’s peers also recognize her as a selfless servant leader who is known throughout Arlington County for her volunteer work and philanthropy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mary Ann Moran for receiving the 2015 William T. Newman, Jr. Spirit of Community Award from the Arlington Community Foundation; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Ann Moran as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for her dedication to improving the lives of the people of Arlington County and the Commonwealth.
