HR180: Commending the Gloucester High School girls' field hockey team.
WHEREAS, the Gloucester High School field hockey team claimed the school’s first state title in girls’ athletics, winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship in November 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Gloucester High School Dukes defeated the Deep Run High School Wildcats by a score of 3 - 0 at the state final, which was held in Virginia Beach; the Dukes outshot the Wildcats 24 - 1, with Karly Harwood, Cheyenne Hollandsworth, and Cassidy Goodwin scoring goals; and
WHEREAS, the state championship victory capped off a perfect 23 - 0 season for the Gloucester High School Dukes; the team recorded 15 shutouts and only allowed four goals during the entire season; and
WHEREAS, Cassidy Goodwin, Brittany Romero, and Bri Greene were named first team all-state, and Karly Harwood and Meredith LeBel were named second team all-state; multiple members of the Gloucester High School girls’ field hockey team were named to the all-conference and all-region teams, and 14 girls were named to the High School National Academic Squad; and
WHEREAS, in addition to being named an All-American, Cassidy Goodwin was named conference, region, and state Player of the Year, and head coach Mike Miller was named conference, region, and state Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the successful season is a testament to the skill and dedication of each of the student-athletes, the leadership of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Gloucester High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Gloucester High School girls’ field hockey team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship in 2015; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mike Miller, head coach of the Gloucester High School field hockey team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
