Description

Department of Veterans Services; Virginia War Memorial Division; names and homes of record designation for Virginians "Killed in Action." Clarifies that Virginians Killed in Action as a result of military operations against terrorism in a U.S. Department of Defense designated combat zone under honorable conditions shall be included on the Shrine of Memory at the Virginia War Memorial of Virginians. The bill also requires the names and homes of record designation of all Virginians killed in action as a result of military operations against terrorism be placed on the Virginia War Memorial within six months of the date of death. MEMBERS OF THE SENATE, THIS IS THE LEGISLATION THAT DIRECTS THE VIRGINIA WAR MEMORIAL TO HONOR OUR FALLEN HEROES IN A TIMELY FASHION BY PUTTING THEIR NAMES ON THE WALL WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE HOUSE SUBSTITUTE EXPANDS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO COULD BE HONORED TO INCLUDE FOLKS LIKE FIELD TEAM 6 OPERATIONS, AND IT SAYS -- IT GIVES THE WAR MEMORIAL UNTIL JULY 1st, 2018, TO BEGIN PUTTING NAMES ON THE WALL BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN IT IS COMPLETED AND READY FOR USE. I RENEW MY MOTION TO ACCEPT THE COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE.
