Description

Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA); exempt records concerning critical infrastructure, government infrastructure, or security information. Defines the terms "critical infrastructure," "government infrastructure," "interdependency," and "security information" for purposes of FOIA and revises the related FOIA public safety record exemption to incorporate those terms. The bill also sets out conditions precedent in cases where a custodian of any public safety records elects to exercise his discretion to release such records. The bill contains technical amendments. IT HELPS DO TO DEFINE THE CATEGORIES OF THE CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE, GOVERNMENT INFRASTRUCTURE AND SECURE INFORMATION AND CONTINUES ON THE WORK THAT PASS THE LAST YEAR TO SECURE CYBER INFORMATION. THIS EXTENDS TO CYBER AS WELL AS PHYSICAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND PROVIDES A FRAME WORK TO PROTECT THAT INFORMATION AND REALLY TO PROVIDE A FRAME WORK TO INCREASE INFORMATION SHARING AMONGST OUR PUBLIC SAFETY ENTITIES TO MAKE SURE IN THIS DAY AND AGE WHEN PEOPLE ARE SEEKING OUT INFORMATION IN WAYS TO HURT US IT PROVIDES A FRAME WORK WHERE WE CAN SECURE AND NOTIFY THE RECORD HOLDERS OF INFORMATION THERE IS A REQUEST AND A MEANS TO PROTECT THAT. THIS IS IMPORTANT AND ENDORSED BY BOTH HOMELAND SECURITY AND FOLKS IN OUR PUBLIC SAFETY SECTOR AND I MOVE THE BILL PASS.
