Commending Douglas S. Freeman High School.

WHEREAS, Douglas S. Freeman High School, an outstanding public secondary school in Henrico County, was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best high schools in the United States in 2015; and

WHEREAS, U.S. News & World Report analyzed data from more than 29,000 public high schools in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., and named 2,527 schools as gold or silver medalists; as a silver medalist school, Douglas S. Freeman High School ranked 33 in Virginia and 1,086 in the nation; and

WHEREAS, to earn the prestigious honor, Douglas S. Freeman High School met or exceeded vigorous criteria related to overall student academic performance, academic performance of economically disadvantaged students, and advanced placement or international baccalaureate test data; and

WHEREAS, Douglas S. Freeman High School scored high marks in reading and mathematics proficiency and demonstrated a 43 percent participation rate in advanced placement classes; and

WHEREAS, the award is a testament to the leadership and dedication of the administration, faculty, and staff, the hard work of the students, and the strong partnerships between Douglas S. Freeman High School and the Henrico County community; and

WHEREAS, Douglas S. Freeman High School was one of 52 ranked schools in Virginia; Henrico County Public Schools recorded the second-most ranked schools in the Commonwealth, with two other schools earning silver medals and one earning a gold medal; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Douglas S. Freeman High School on being ranked as one of the best high schools in the nation in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anne Poates, principal of Douglas S. Freeman High School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s exceptional service to the youth of the Henrico County community.
