Commending Joseph J. Fray.

WHEREAS, Joseph J. Fray has safeguarded the lives and property of his fellow Madison County residents as an active member of the Madison County Volunteer Fire Company for more than 60 years; and

WHEREAS, Joseph “Jack” Fray and his twin brother, John, joined the Madison County Volunteer Fire Company on November 28, 1955; their contributions to the fire company and the Madison County community are immeasurable, with both having held numerous leadership positions; and

WHEREAS, Jack Fray was named assistant chief in 1968 and rose through the ranks to become treasurer, captain, marshal, and president; he served as chief from 1997 to 2008 and currently serves as safety officer; and

WHEREAS, Jack Fray received the Madison County Volunteer Fire Company’s prestigious James O. Clore Award in 1990, 1995, and 2000; he is the only three-time winner of the award, which is presented to an exceptional member of the department each year; and

WHEREAS, Jack Fray remains one of the top call runners in the department and works to impart his knowledge to a new generation of firefighters as an instructor for the Virginia Department of Fire Programs; he is also a life member of the Madison County Rescue Squad; and

WHEREAS, throughout the course of their careers, Jack and John Fray have mentored countless youths in the community, many of whom have gone on to pursue a career in public safety, and they are held in the highest regard by their peers for their leadership and expertise; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Joseph J. Fray on the occasion of his 60th anniversary as an active member of the Madison County Volunteer Fire Company; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Joseph J. Fray as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his tireless service to the people of Madison County.
