Commending the Honorable Teena D. Grodner.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Teena D. Grodner, a presiding judge and former chief judge of the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, retires on March 15, 2016; and

WHEREAS, beginning in 1979, Teena Grodner practiced family law in the Commonwealth, earning accolades for her expertise and leadership; she served as a commissioner in chancery for the Alexandria Circuit Court and the Fairfax County Circuit Court, as well as a motions conciliator and neutral case evaluator for the Fairfax County Circuit Court; and

WHEREAS, Teena Grodner was appointed as a judge of the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court of the 19th Judicial District of Virginia on April 16, 1998; she presided with great fairness and wisdom for nearly 18 years, including two years as chief judge from 2006 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, during her time on the bench, Teena Grodner took a special interest in the youth of the community and worked with Fairfax County agencies to develop drug and alcohol education programs for teens, to create a Victims Services Office, and to establish an award-winning creative writing program for local young people; and

WHEREAS, a respected leader in the judicial field, Teena Grodner serves as president of the Virginia Association of Women Judges, Virginia Council of Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Judges, and George Mason American Inn of Court; she is a member of the Judicial Conference of Virginia for District Courts, the Virginia Women Attorneys Association, and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges; and

WHEREAS, a woman of great integrity, Teena Grodner has served the community and the Commonwealth with the utmost professionalism and dedication; after her well-earned retirement, she plans to seek new opportunities to serve the community and to spend more time with her husband, Stephen, and their children, Rachel and Aaron; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Honorable Teena D. Grodner hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as a judge of the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Teena D. Grodner as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for her service to Fairfax County and the Commonwealth.
