AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the Senate Committee on Rehabilitation and Social Services

A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 63.2-1701.01, relating to licensed family day homes; storage of firearms.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 63.2-1701.01 as follows:

§ 63.2-1701.01. Licensed family day homes; storage of firearms.

Possession of any firearm or ammunition in a licensed family day home shall comply with federal and state laws. All firearms and ammunition shall be stored in a locked closet, cabinet, or container during the family day home's hours of operation. The key or combination to the locked closet, cabinet, or container shall be maintained out of the reach of all children in the home.
