WHEREAS, Christina Mapes, a law-enforcement officer and dedicated civic leader, served as chair of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach for four years; and

WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Christina “Tina” Mapes graduated from Kempsville High School, where she volunteered as a voter registrar during her senior year; she holds a bachelor’s degree from Saint Leo University and a master’s degree from Troy University; and

WHEREAS, Tina Mapes began volunteering with the Republican Party of Virginia Beach as precinct organization chair and cultivated an expertise in the mechanics of campaigns and elections; and

WHEREAS, Tina Mapes received the 2015 Republican Woman of the Year award from the Republican Party of Virginia Beach for her outstanding contributions, and she was elected as chair of the organization in 2016; and

WHEREAS, over the course of her career, Tina Mapes logged hundreds of hours in support of numerous campaigns, volunteering to help with sign delivery, phone banking, and door knocking for candidates; and

WHEREAS, as a captain with the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, Tina Mapes will continue to serve the community as commanding officer of the department’s Criminal Intelligence and Classification Division; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Christina Mapes hereby be commended for her four years of service as chair of the Republican Party of Virginia Beach; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christina Mapes as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for her contributions to the residents of Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
