An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22.1-5.2, relating to high school student-athletes; compensation for name, image, or likeness.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-5.2 as follows:

§ 22.1-5.2. Athletics; high school student-athletes; compensation for name, image, or likeness.

No high school student-athlete who participates in an athletic competition shall enter into any contract to receive compensation in relation to such student's athletic participation in exchange for the use of such student's name, image, or likeness.

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding sections numbered 22.1-5.2 and 23.1-408.1 as follows:

§ 22.1-5.2. Interscholastic athletics; high school student-athletes; compensation for name, image, or likeness.

No high school student-athlete who participates in interscholastic athletic competition shall enter into any contract to receive compensation in exchange for the use of such student's name, image, or likeness.

§ 23.1-408.1. Intercollegiate athletics; student-athletes; compensation for name, image, or likeness.

No student-athlete enrolled at an institution of higher education who participates in intercollegiate athletic competition shall enter into any contract to receive compensation in exchange for the use of such student's name, image, or likeness, the duration of which extends beyond the student's enrollment at such institution.
