Minimum wage; tipped employees, classification. (HB56)

Patron: Del. Lee Carter (D-Manassas)
Status: signed by governor

I would rather see tipped employees make minimum wage or more, and do away with tipping in general as a result.

However, there are employers that simply won't budge on what they're willing to pay employees for their work, and quitting or finding work elsewhere doesn't solve the problem. Making this a law just might.

I say this deserves to be passed.

Minimum wage; increases to $9 per hour effective January 1, 2021. (HB433)

Patron: Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy (D-Woodbridge)
Status: incorporated

While I do think that $15/hr in the state of Virginia is perhaps too much, I'll always vote to increase it.

A living wage in VA is actually around $12 last I checked. But in 5 years things could change to where $15 could be feasible.

We'll make it work one way or another.

Minimum wage and workers' compensation; inmates as employees. (HB1543)

Patron: Del. Lee Carter (D-Manassas)
Status: failed committee

We already treat our inmates like garbage instead of helping reform them. So yes, I'm all for giving them access to minimum wage.
